Training: I had a pretty good morning workout: 1900 yard swim followed by a 40 minute (5 mile) run. My swim was suppose to be 500 yards more, but I somehow read the workout incorrectly, or did I?  Off to bed here right away. I have another early morning session planned: a one hour swim at 6:00 a.m. I hope the water temperature is not ridiculously warm like it was this morning. It literally felt like I was climbing in my bath tub.

Looking forward to getting my NEW Kinetic Fluid Road Trainer next week. Nothing is worse than having to perform a long indoor bike workout on a spinning cycle. Looking at this weekend's 2:45 minute ride was all the incentive I needed to order one. My butt usually falls asleep just about midway through, which of course means, that it is going to be up all night. I don't even know what that means. I'm tired and apparently delusional. I need sleep.

Oh, yes... almost forgot. The Luke Skywalker/Bytterfly picture turned out great. My friend Cristina said that I do not quite look mean enough. She suggested I work on my "vicious soulless hunter look." She said I look a little too much "spaghetti and meatballs." I'll work on looking less Italian Cristina.

As I get ready for Ironman St George and wind down on writing my book "ONEHOURIRONMAN, Family, Career, Spare time & Iron distance racing (balance without breaking the bank) I reflect on how nice it would be to have more than the standard Timex Ironman watch as my guide come race day. BUT, as the title says, "balance without breaking the bank" so anything more than the $30 IM watch I bought on Ebay would cut into funds that might be used for the kids future...
But a Timex Ironman Training Kit would be sweet..

Hey, I just started my own blog (avreagetriguy.blogspot.com) and plugged your giveaway. I think I now have all four of my entry possiblities covered.
Did I mention I have five kids, too? Does that give me any advantage in the drawing? You know, sympatico and all that.

I LOVE the family pic. It doesn't help that you all are so darn cute. I'll be curious to know how you like the trainer. I was discussing them with Adam a few weeks ago. I am missing my bike....the stationary's at the Y just don't cut it. Hubby and I are considering the Erie Canal Bike Tour this summer (if I can remain unpregnant long enough), so I really need to get some riding in. I've been watching Craigslist and eyeing a few new ones. I'd love a review of the Kinetic one after you've had the chance to use it.

BTW, I am surprised that you haven't had the "how babies are made" discussion yet. Our 6yo wanted "details" when I was pregnant with the youngest. He is not satisfied with pat answers. He has an engineering mind and an insane need to know and understand everything. It was quite challenging trying to figure out how much is really appropriate for a 6yo. "God put the baby there" worked a few years ago, but wouldn't cut it this time. Tell your wife I said "hello." I miss chatting with her at the gym

Hi Jera, We have had the "where do babies come from" discussion. I will spare you the details, but the boys faces spoke to their astonishment.

You have a beautiful family as well. Alaina took one look at the line "if I can remain unpregnant," and said, "that's Jera... Jera wrote that!"

Yeah, let's talk trainers whenever you are around next. I did a lot of research and have some pretty strong opinions on them.

I went to the Timex web site and took a look at the watches. The only one I would use would be the Triathlon training kit because it offers the heart rate monitor. I would use during all of my swim, biek and run work outs. I may even wear it when I eat dinner to make sure I don't put to much effor into eating.

I stumbled upon your site as I was looking for tri training tips for my 9-year old daughter who is about to participate in her first ever aquathlon event this March.

I love reading your articles, and I am amazed at your devotion as a parent and as an athlete.

Tina-- thanks for stopping by, AND leaving your mark. Thanks for your kind words as well.

I hope your daughter has great fun participating in her first aquathon. My son participated in his first triathlon last summer and he loved it. His "training" consisted of swimming laps at our local YMCA, accompanying dad on runs on his bike, and doing quarter mile timed runs around our street with the neighborhood kids. Yeah, I am that dad. You know... "who wants to see how fast they can run around the circle?" I believe "training" should just be fun at their age. If she is naturally competitive, she'll let you know.

Best,

-M

Hi Mark, I am now an "official" follower of your blog. I am not quite up to the full Ironman (at least not yet ; ), but I did register for the Mussleman this AM. Timex Ironman Training Kit would come in quite handy (three entries)!

PS - I am now a fan of Timex sport on Facebook and I like the Ironman "Core" series watches as posted on their Website.
